The Mayor and Council Members of the City of Inglewood are pleased to announce the appointment of Anita Willis as City Attorney. Ms. Willis’ appointment to the top-level position in the Office of the City Attorney was confirmed at the November 16th City Council Meeting, and she is expected to join Inglewood on Monday, December 13, 2004.
Ms. Willis brings to Inglewood a well-respected career in both public and private business sectors. Her professional accolades include providing legal and administrative expertise for the City of Oceanside, City of Los Angeles, and for the Law Offices of Mallory & Brown-Curtis (Los Angeles). With her industrious and diverse professional background, Ms. Willis offers the City of Inglewood the perfect ingredients to deliver invaluable legal expertise to the organization.
As City Attorney, Ms. Willis’ primary responsibility is to provide legal advice and interpretation to City Administration, to the Mayor and Council Members, and to City departments to protect the best interests of Inglewood. Currently, the Office of the City Attorney consists of five (5) attorneys and support staff members and is responsible for prosecuting defendants and defending the City in both Criminal and Civil legal proceedings.
Willis replaces Emmerline Foote, Chief Assistant City Attorney, who has served as Interim City Attorney since September 2002. The Mayor and the Council Members along with Mark Weinberg, City Administrator, are extremely appreciative of the dedication to the organization, as Ms. Foote professionally balanced the duties serving as the Interim City Attorney and Chief Assistant City Attorney. Ms. Foote will continue her service as a Chief Assistant City Attorney.
Willis graduated with honors from Philander Smith College with a B.A. and received her M.B.A. from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Willis received her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1992 and was admitted to the California Bar Association in 1992, U.S. District Court- Central District (1992) and Southern District (1998). She remains involved with a host of professional memberships and is active in many civic and community organizations.
The City warmly welcomes Anita Willis to Inglewood and looks forward to a successful and productive relationship.
