The Community Development Department provides professional redevelopment services, administers the City's subsidized housing program, and offers a number of commercial and residential assistance programs. To accomplish its mission, the Community Development Department is made up of three divisions: Redevelopment, Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and the Housing Authority. The responsibility for revitalizing blighted sections of Inglewood that have been designated as "Redevelopment Project Areas" by the City Council belongs to the Redevelopment Division, which acts as staff to the Redevelopment Agency. The Redevelopment Agency has been instrumental in developing a significant number of housing, office, industrial and urban infrastructure projects within the City since its formation in 1969. The CDBG Division's mission is to direct, manage and coordinate federal grant programs funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to meet community development and housing needs. Each year the City of Inglewood receives the following three types of federal funding for projects and programs that improve the community:
The Housing Division is responsible for administering the subsidized Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The division manages housing assistance vouchers and rent subsidy programs, and ensures that contracted housing meets habitable standards. Additional information regarding the various services available through the Community Development Department can be obtained by calling any of the department divisions.
