The City of Inglewood has worked for years to mitigate the exposure of its residents to the high noise levels generated by aircraft arriving at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The LAX facility is located just west of the City’s border and is an integral part of the economic fabric of the area.
Two redevelopment project areas were created with the primary goal to remove noise-impacted housing and to recycle the acquired property to non-noise sensitive land uses such as commercial and industrial developments. The program has been successful in establishing two industrial parks and a commercial-retail development in what were once deteriorating residential neighborhoods.
