Special Services for Young People

To assist students with assignments on the California missions, the library staff has gathered information on the Internet about individual missions and the California mission system. For the most part, these sites have been developed by scholars, although one is offered by an elementary school class.

Between the Lions airs daily on PBS. It's a brand new show from WGBH and Sirius Thinking. The makers of Arthur, Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego? and ZOOM have teamed up with some of the original creators of Sesame Street and the Muppet Show to help parents help their kids learn to read. They've built this web site to accompany each of the 30 shows in the first season of Between the Lions.

About Children's/Youth Services at the Inglewood Public Library

The Inglewood Public Library provides more than 150,000 books for youth at the Main Library and branches as well as young adult and children's videos and sound recordings at the Audio-Visual Division, Main Library. The Library defines "youth" as young people from infants through the eighth grade.

Librarians are on duty in the Children's/Youth Services Library, Main Library all hours the building is open to the public. Among the services offered to children, young adults, parents, and teachers are:

  • Assistance in locating materials and other resources to complete school assignments. (It is not the librarian's job to do students' homework for them!)
  • Hosting class visits to the Library. Interested teachers should call 310/412-5645 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
  • Providing materials of special interest to parents and teachers in working with young people in the Children's Services Collection. Ask a librarian for more information.
  • Offering crafts and other special programs at the Main Library and Crenshaw-Imperial Branch.
