Meet the Library Director
     Bruce Johnson, Library Director

Prior to joining the City in late July 2009, Bruce Johnson capped a ten year career at San Diego Public Library as Deputy Director.  His responsibilities included oversight of Central Library Public Services, Technology, Literacy Services and Technical Services.  He administered a $16.5 million budget and led a staff of 131 employees.  While at San Diego Public Bruce expanded self checkout technology, centralized collection development, and developed a number of cooperative programs and community partnerships.

A Librarian for over twenty four years, additional career highlights include service as Head of Cleveland Public Library’s Main Library, Assistant Director at the Parkside campus of the University of Wisconsin, and branch and central librarian at the Milwaukee Public Library.

Bruce is active professionally, having served as Vice Chair of the SERRA Cooperative Library Service in San Diego as well as holding memberships in the California and American Library Associations.
