New Signage Comments / Questions

During this fall and winter the City of Inglewood is working on a new streetscape initiative that enhances the look and feel of our major commercial corridors. To date, these efforts have included adding more decorative banners on street lights, as well as hiring a contractor to expand the city’s tree trimming capacity and efforts. Another initiative, which is planned, is the upgrading of our gateway signage. The current signs have served us well, but are now showing their age. On Wednesday, December 3, 2008 we installed a refurbished gateway sign at the intersection of Manchester and Ash. The refurbished sign has the City’s Centennial logo at the top and new yellow background with red INGLEWOOD lettered panels. In the next few days a multi-colored panel will be added to the bottom.

The cost of refurbishing the signs is lower than designing, fabricating and installing a new signage package. The panel’s material is the newest reflective material on the market and meets updated highway signage codes. Additionally, the panels can be easily replaced if damaged, at a fairly low cost.

We would like to receive your input on the newly refurbished sign (i.e., colors, logos, etc.). Please take a minute to submit your comments. If the community is supportive of the changes to the sign, the city will create a gateway signage replacement plan by mid 2009; however, if residents and business owners are not satisfied with the changes to the sign, we will go back to the drawing board with either minimal or major changes.
