REGULATIONS FOR AUTOMATED RESIDENTIAL REFUSE COLLECTION
- When do I put refuse out for collection and when must the container be removed?
Place your container out no earlier than the evening before the day set for collection. It must be in place by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection. All containers must be removed from the parkway or alley on the same day they are emptied.
- Where do I place the container for collection?
Depending on the point of collection, the container must be placed in the parkway area above the curb or in the alley. Please position container at least three feet away from obstructions such as tree trunks, sign posts or utility poles. The container handle and wheels should face back towards your house.
- What kind of container may I use?
The City's refuse collection contractor provides you with a 95-gallon plastic container with an attached handle, lid and wheels. The containers are the property of the contractor and must remain at the property where they were originally delivered. Only the items placed in the container will be hauled away. If you need an additional container, please contact Waste Management at (310) 677-6500. There will be an extra charge per month for each additional black trash containers.
- Is this the only container I can use?
You must use the container provided by Waste Management. For the same monthly rate, at your request, Waste Management at (310) 677-6500 will replace the larger container with a smaller 65-gallon container if this is more suitable for your needs.
Refuse will not be picked up on seven (7) recognized holidays:

During these holiday weeks all collection days on and after the holiday will be one day late for the remainder of the week. On all other holidays, refuse will be collected as scheduled.
At no charge, items such as tree limbs, couches, stoves, refrigerators and rugs may be placed at the curb for collection on a Saturday special pick-up. To request this extra service you must call Waste Management at (310) 677-6500, or the City of Inglewood at 310/412-5340, before 5:00 p.m., on Thursday of the same week. REFRIGERATORS LEFT OUT SHALL HAVE DOORS REMOVED OR SECURED SO THEY CANNOT BE OPENED. Tree limbs must be tied in bundles not over 4 feet in length and 60 pounds in weight.
COMMERCIAL REFUSE COLLECTION RULES AND REGULATIONS
In accordance with disposal guidelines containers should be evenly loaded and not filled above the rim. Container lids should be closed completely and access should be unobstructed on the scheduled day(s) of collection. There should be no waste or items outside of the container. Containers should not be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on collection day and should be placed back on private property immediately after collection.
All commercial and residential properties in the City are required to have refuse service. Please help us by complying with the City’s disposal guidelines. The refuse contractor will not collect waste in violation of the rules. In cases when refuse is not collected the contractor will leave a notice indicating the violation. The property owner is responsible for the proper removal and disposal of the waste. A special collection can be arranged by calling (310) 677-6500.
OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP
Residential Properties with Barrel Service
Twice each year the City’s refuse contractor will pick up any amount of junk, appliances, furniture, brush, or lumber you can bring to the curb on your regular collection day. After filling your green container, other items may be placed in additional containers of your choice. During OSC you may use additional bags or containers but containers should weigh no more than sixty pounds when full. Branches, tree trimmings, lumber, etc. must be tied in bundles not to exceed four-foot lengths and sixty pounds.
Apartments with Bin Service
The City’s refuse contractor conducts two special Clean Sweep days for apartment buildings in May and October. Additional trash loads of up to five cubic yards will be collected at no extra charge, provided prior notice is given.
Property owners will be notified by mailer one month in advance of the DCS schedule.

DISPOSAL OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
To dispose of construction materials and large quantities of yard waste materials contact Waste Management at 310/677-6500 to make arrangements. Residents can also transport materials to any of the following locations for disposal. Call in advance for disposal rates.

- Where is refuse taken? First to Waste Management’s Transfer station where it is sorted. Item’s that can be recycled go Corridor Recycling, Potential Industries or Quality Paper. The remaining refuse is then taken to any one of a several dumps. Because local landfills reach their permitted daily capacity, Waste Management currently uses several landfills including Simi Valley, Lancaster, Palmdale, Puente Hills, as well as their own landfill, El Sobrante.
- During Operation Clean Sweep, Waste Management collected 463.20 tons of trash in May 2002.
