In September 2005 the City contracted @ City Inc. who provided a photographic documentation services as a pilot project, which encompassed approximately twenty-five contiguous miles of road. @ City Inc. used iStreetview that provided an innovative, low cost, web tool to deliver street level panoramic images. This application permits GIS to integrate data into existing assets such as streets, street signs, traffic signals, light poles and any other existing assets that may be viewed on the digital imagery.
On March 13, 2007 council approved funds for the Police Department to purchase 360-degree digital imagery. Late June, 2007 @ City Inc. completed the rest of the City’s digital imagery acquisition. The imagery is currently being reviewed by various City staff.

The GIS Lab is now being utilized by staff. Staff continues to schedule training sessions to offer various departments the opportunity to learn GIS. A number of web-based applications have been developed that allow staff to utilize GIS for certain tasks from their existing computer stations. GIS staff is currently researching acquiring certified GIS trainer to instruct City staff in using GIS software.

The City’s GIS is formerly working on developing an online data dictionary that will allow users to search all existing GIS data within the City’s GIS data repository. The Metadata Explorer is the web interface application that will allow users to search interactively using several options. The latest ESRI metadata tools are being utilized to document data according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Federal Geographical Data Committee (FGDC) standard formats.

The Master Addressing System is a major component for establishing and implementing an enterprise GIS. City staff is currently creating and verifying addresses, primarily focusing on the industrial and commercial corridors. The goal is to acquire all addresses including secondary addresses (addresses other than main addresses). These secondary addresses include apartment units, suites and fractional addresses and will associate these addresses with a building reference.
There is a high level of detail required for this project in order to accommodate the numerous departmental needs. Common uses include, generation of mailing labels, assignment of addresses as a result of new development, 3N Notification System for emergency response, etc. GIS Staff are using various resources such as the color orthophotography, I-Street Viewer Plus, utility addresses and field verification to assist in validation.
