Glen Kau, Public Works Director

Glen W. C. Kau is the Public Works Director/City Engineer of the City of Inglewood. He leads the Public Works Department that has a combined workforce of more than 130 engineers, managers, analysts, field and support staff and an annual operating budget of $45.5 million. As Public Works Director/City Engineer, Mr. Kau currently oversees 24 active projects totaling $24 million. He leads the Public Works Department in design and construction of public facilities such as the civic center, libraries, parks, and the police station. He is also responsible for infrastructure projects involving streets and transportation, water system and water treatment plant, sewers and storm drains and the regulation of private development affecting the public right-of-way.

Mr. Kau’s appointment as Public Works Director/City Engineer in 2006 initiates the beginning of a new period of infrastructure expansion and upgrades throughout virtually every part of the 9-square mile city - to maintain the integrity of the public works infrastructure developed over the last 80+ years and to ensure that adequate systems that protect public health and the environment are in place for the nearly 120,000 people of the City of Inglewood. The Public Works Department is managing annual capital construction expenditures of $50 million. This pace is anticipated to continue for the next several years.

Mr. Kau is closely involved with several projects that are expected to transform the face of Inglewood. A few of these are the ARRA/Stimulus funded Manchester Boulevard Resurfacing Project, the La Brea Phase II Pavement Rehabilitation Project, and the much anticipated Century Boulevard Improvements.

Mr. Kau’s appointment as the leader of the Public Works Department reflects almost two decades of technical, business and political acumen. He has held the past positions with other agencies as Public Works Director/City Engineer, District Engineer of a water district and others.

Mr. Kau is a graduate of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is also a graduate of the California State University, Long Beach with a Master’s degree in Public Administration, with an emphasis in Public Works.

In 2007, Mr. Kau was the President of the City and County Engineers Association. He is a member of the American Public Works Association; a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a member of the American Water Works Association; and a member of Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society. He is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
