The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is charged with enhancing the quality of life for Inglewood residents, businesses and visitors through the provision of comprehensive recreational, social and community beautification services and programs  The Department consists of four Divisions – Parks, Recreation and Cultural, Human Services and Community Beautification Services – with the following goals:

  • Provide comprehensive recreational and community service programs for youth, families and senior citizens. 
  • Promote broad access to parks and recreational facilities. 
  • Expand opportunities for cultural enrichment. 
  • Maintain a high level of service and maintenance in City parks, parkways, center medians, islands, alleys and trees located on City property. 
  • Promote community beautification and foster neighborhood preservation through responsive and professional property maintenance, blight mitigation and eradication and anti-graffiti activities.

 

Our ultimate goal is to help individuals enjoy life. 

 
IBA Spring Planting
News Image Everyone is invited to participate in the Inglewood Beautification Association's Spring Flower Planting, Saturday, May 1, 2010, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Volunteers will meet at Hillcrest Boulevard and Kelso Street - in front of the Post Office and will be assigned a planting area.  An assortment of Spring flowers will be planted throughout the City. Inglewood Plans Festivities to Celebrate Cesar Chavez Day
The City of Inglewood will host the 9th Annual Cesar Chavez Day Unity March, Recognition Ceremony and Celebration on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The event which is sponsored by the City of Inglewood and the Inglewood Unified School District will get underway at 10:00 a.m. at Warren Lane Elementary School located at 9330 8th Avenue.  The march will be led by state and local officials who will be joined by residents and community groups.  Marchers will leave the grounds of Warren Lane Elementary at 10:30 a.m. and will travel west on Arbor Vitae to Crenshaw, north on Crenshaw to Pincay Drive and west on Pincay Drive to Darby Park (via the Pincay Drive entrance).

Kool-Aid & Kaboom Playground Build: Exciting Volunteer Opportunity!
News Image Join us as we team up with Kool-Aid and KaBOOM!  to build a playground at Center Park, 3660 W. 111th St.  We are seeking 200+ volunteers who do not have to be skilled, trained or have any special tools; they just have to be enthusiastic, energetic, a team player, willing to work, and have fun, fun, fun!  (And be at least 18 years of age).  Volunteers will assist with tasks ranging from registration to assembling and installing the equipment.

Free Computer Classes for Senior Citizens
Beginning Monday, January 4, 2010, the Lockhaven Community Center will offer a "free" Introduction to Computers class for senior citizens. This fun and exciting class is designed for those with little or no computer experience. Students will learn how to start and turn off a computer, open and close programs, search the internet for information and how to send and receive E-mail. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to create, save and print documents using Microsoft programs. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. News Image Skateboarding is the hottest and fastest-growing "extreme" sport in the United States and Inglewood is keeping pace with the growth.  Inglewood has three thriving skate parks that are filled with excited and energetic skateboarders. Skate Parks are located at the following locations:

Accolades Continue for the History of Transportation Mural Preservation
The City has yet another wonderful recognition by a prestigious publication for the restoration work done on the History of Transportation Mural.  The January/February 2009 edition of American Art Review magazine features the mural in an 8-page story, written and submitted by Anita Bennett of Young Communications of Los Angeles.

 35th Annual Summer Tournament

Entry deadline for the Inglewood Junior Tournament will be on Friday, July 16, 2010 and entries not accompanied with fee will not be entered into draw. The draw will be posted on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Tournament will be on July 31st & August 1st and August 7th & 8th, 2010.

Athletic Fields Available for Rental
Fields for baseball, soccer, and football are available for rental at Darby, Rogers, and Vincent Parks. For more information on fees and schedules, please call Vincent Park at (310) 412-5370, Rogers Park at (310) 412-5504, and Darby Park at (310) 412-5391.

Racquet Ball and Weight Room Facilities Available
Racquet Ball and Weight Room facilities are available for use by residents and the community at large at both Rogers Park and Darby Park. A monthly membership fee is required. The racquet ball membership fee is $12 (resident) and $14 (non-residents); weight room membership is $10 (resident) and $12 (non-residents). Pre-school Classes Offered
The Inglewood Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department offers early childhood development classes for children ages two to five years old. The program provides an excellent recreation experience that includes creative arts and crafts, rhythms, finger plays, dance, storytelling, share time and free play. In addition, outdoor play activity, refreshment time, field trips, picnics, and various activities are offered. Classes are offered at Darby Park, Lockhaven Community Center, Rogers Park, Siminski Park and Edward Vincent Jr. Park.
