Programs for Children and Youth

Early Childhood Development

The Department offers pre-school classes for children ages two to five years old. The program provides an excellent recreation experience that includes creative arts and crafts, rhythms, finger plays, dance, storytelling, share time and free play. In addition, outdoor play activity, refreshment time, field trips, picnics, and various activities are offered. Classes are offered at Darby Park, Lockhaven Center, Siminski Park and Vincent Park.

After School Fun Club

The After School Fun Club provides recreation-centered activities like gymnastics, music, art, sports, dance, modeling and school study groups for homework completion. The program operates Monday through Friday for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade at elementary schools in the Inglewood Unified School District. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. There is an annual registration fee of $2 per child plus a monthly fee of $30 per month for one child; $60 for a family with two or more children. Payments are due on the first of each month. The Fun Club is sponsored by the City of Inglewood Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Middle School Program

Darby Park and Rogers Park host monthly dances for middle school students every second Friday of each month. Students must attend middle schools in the Inglewood Unified School District or be an Inglewood resident. Admission is $1 per student. School identification is required at the door. Mobile Recreation Program

The Mobile Recreation Program is taking the fun to the streets with its new customized vehicle.  The Mobile Recreation Unit is complete with cabinets overflowing with balls, board games, arts and crafts, and more.

The program offers a safe, fun filled environment to youth ages 5 and up and gives participants the opportunity to engage in creative crafts, age appropriate games and organized activities in their own neighborhood while being supervised by recreation staff.  Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by and adult.

The unit travels to various sites around the city and can be found at North Park on Wednesdays from 2 pm – 5 pm, Ash Park on Thursdays from 2 pm – 5 pm, and Center Park on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 pm – 5 pm and Saturdays from 12 noon – 5 pm.  For more information on the Mobile Recreation Unit, contact Darby Park at (310) 412-5391.
