Inglewood Celebrates the Arts Market Street Festival

The Centennial Celebration Continues

Mark your calendar and plan to attend Inglewood’s 11th annual “Inglewood Celebrates the Arts Market Street Festival,” taking place Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. to dusk.  This festival promises fun and entertainment for individuals, families and children of all ages.  Festival activities will take place along historic downtown Market Street from Florence Avenue to Hillcrest Boulevard.

Come and enjoy the sounds of Brazil, Africa, Cuba, Mexico and of course or own, American Jazz and R & B.  Renowned entertainers including the Javon Davis Band, Susie Hansen Latin Band, Friends, Hollywood All-Stars and People's Choice, will perform throughout the day on three different stages.  Young performing artists such as All That Dance Company, Fantasia Dance Ensemble, Danza Huitzilopochtli and Ballet Folklorico Macias will also be showcased in the day’s line-up.  Booths featuring multicultural artists, interactive games, storytellers, illustrators, and arts and crafts for children will line the streets.

This year marks Inglewood’s 100th anniversary as an incorporated city.  In keeping with the Centennial theme, come and learn about Inglewood’s magnificent history.  Play old fashion games and participate in hands-on demonstrations.  The event will include several hands-on art workshops and giveaways.

If you’re a classic car buff, you won’t want to miss the Classic Car Show featuring pre-1970 vintage cars and specialty vehicles. And when you’re hungry you can feast at our famous International Food Court featuring some of the best eateries in town then shop while visiting a variety of merchants at our Festival Marketplace.

New this year, the festival will also include a health pavilion.  Local health care providers and educators will offer free health screenings to youth, adults and senior citizens, including free mammograms, HIV testing, vision, dental, blood pressure and diabetes screenings to name a few.

This is the City’s 100th birthday year and eleventh annual arts festival.  Last year’s event was a great success.  It is anticipated that there will be an even greater turnout and more excitement as The Centennial Celebration Continues….  Don’t miss the fun.

Ample and convenient free parking is available at local parking structures including Inglewood City Hall and Locust Street (near Manchester).
