Join the City of Inglewood and Inglewood Unified School District on Saturday, March 21, 2009, for the 8th Annual Cesar Chavez Day Unity March, Recognition Ceremony and Celebration.
The event will get underway at 10:00 a.m. with a Unity March at Warren Lane Elementary School located at 9330 8th Avenue. The march will be led by Maria Elena Chavez, niece of the late Cesar Chavez, along with state and local officials who will be joined by residents and community groups.
Immediately following the March, the celebration will continue at 11:00 a.m. on the grounds of Darby Park, located at 3400 West Arbor Vitae. Radio personalities Nautica De La Cruz and Pepe Salas will serve as the emcees for the event. Parking for the march and celebration is available at Hollywood Park-Gate 8. Shuttle service will be provided to and from the park throughout the day.
The day’s festivities will include live performances by the Bob Desena Latin Jazz Band, Danza Huitzlilopochtli, Oak Street Ballet Folklorico Dancers, El Venadito Estrada and Mariachi Guadalajara.
Highlighting the celebration will be presentations by the dynamic winners of the Cesar Chavez Day speech contest. Activities have been planned for the entire family, including arts and crafts, interactive and carnival style games, face painting, vendor booths and a soccer tournament featuring the 6th Annual “Cesar Chavez Day Cup”.
