Market Street is Inglewood’s historic downtown shopping center.  Like many central business districts, Market Street is currently being revitalized at full force.  Efforts have included $4.5 million in streetscape improvements complete with new landscaping, expanded sidewalks, new lighting and signage.  Most recently, façade improvements have begun at the north 100 block of Market Street where the City hosts is annual Inglewood Celebrates the Arts Festival.

Initially a rebate program, merchants or property owners who invested in their properties by improving the exterior appearance would qualify for up to 40% of the improvement costs.  The program has since been converted into a one-time grant program.  Key buildings and locations were methodically selected to create an immediate impact when one visits the commercial district.  During the previous year, Spano Architects and the Office of Economic & Business Development (OEBD) have worked in partnership with Market Street businesses and property owners resulting in an attractive face-lift that compliments the new street. 

The design is simple and clean, building on the building’s individual character and existing architectural details.  Improvements include new paint, awnings, signage, lighting, glass and some molding detailing. 

Funded by HUD Section 108 funds, the $400,000 façade improvements construction project is a collaborative effort between Public Works and the Office of Economic & Business Development (OEBD).  The Van Nuys based SHE Construction was selected as the project’s contractor through a competitive bid.  Construction is expected to be complete in early March.  Please visit our merchants, they ARE OPEN during construction!
