Inglewood Economic Development Strategic Plan Approved
Report and Action Plans Available Online
Noted by the Project Manager, Arno Hart the final report was prepared based on a collaborative effort and consensus that was reached on key issues that need to be the City’s focus for economic development. Four areas were approved by the City Council as the goal for the City of Inglewood in improving economic development opportunities.  They include:

  • Increase employment opportunities
  • Broaden the City’s tax base
  • Attract people and businesses
  • Increase service opportunities for residents.

For each goal, the final report outlines specific objectives, their focus, core challenges, the overall approach and Inglewood Fact Actions (I-FAST-ACTS) to implement the goal; and key benchmarks to evaluate the City’s success.

With increasing employment opportunities, the report notes the City needs to increase the number and quality of jobs as measured by income and benefits, and the share held by Inglewood residents. To broaden the tax base, the report recommends that the City expand its sales tax and property tax base, and focus on the immediate opportunity of retail development, specifically higher-end and entertainment driven mixed-use development.

A critical challenge outlined in the report is to address the City’s image. In improving the City’s appeal, the consultant recommends strongly that the City refrain from a sleek marketing campaign. Instead, the report dictates that the City should focus on making businesses feel welcome; help residents, businesses and customers feel safe; make sure homes are affordable; and address blight to the end that the City looks like a great place to live and work.

Finally, the report recommends that the City deploy services that improve economic development opportunities. Though the City increasing its increased revenue base drives this area, the goal is to make public or public-private investments for cultural centers and museums; training and education programs; parks and recreation areas; and general services, such as transportation and public works projects. The report notes that these kinds of investments are a strong link to the economic vitality of the community.

The Office of Economic and Business Development will be charged with implementing the Action Plan adopted by the City Council, under the direction of the Administrative Office. The full report of the Economic Development Strategic Plan is available below:
