Inglewood Public Library Mission Statement:

The mission of the Inglewood Public Library is to provide access to informational, educational, and recreational services and resources responsive to the library's diverse communities.

In addition to answering questions about library service and operations, the Library Administrative Office accepts reservations for the Gladys Waddingham Lecture Hall, and deals with most library personnel matters.

The Adult Services Division provides reference and information service to all of the library's clientele. Librarians in this division select and maintain current reference and adult materials, including serial publications, documents and automated information services, conduct tours for the public, provide informational and cultural library programs, and offer instruction in the use of library materials, resources, and automated services.  The Library is a select depository for federal and state government documents.

Branch Library Services provides library services and resources that reflect the needs and interests of the branch community. The Crenshaw Imperial Branch Library provides Reference, Readers' Advisory, and programming for adults and children. Please see CALENDAR OF EVENTS for scheduled programs.

Children's Services provides services for children from birth to eighth grade. The Division maintains a public service desk staffed by professional librarians who provide reference help and Readers' Advisory (recommendations for reading). The children's librarians present many programs for children and their parents including weekly Early Literacy for Families (ELF) programming: Storytime for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Other programs include Block Building, Wii, After-School Library Club, Coding Classes, BINGO, Movies, and STEM programs. The children's librarians also conduct school visits where they go to a school to talk about the public library and it services. The library welcomes class visits where students and their teachers come to the library for an orientation or other customized program. Circulation Services include registration for new library cards, the check-in and check-out of library materials, renewals, collection of fines and fees, and notification to borrowers when reserved materials are available. They are also responsible for Stack Maintenance -- the shelving of books and the verification that the books on the shelves are in the correct order.

The library has two large collections of library materials in Spanish -- one in the Adult section and one in the Children's section. The library also offers programs conducted in Spanish including a Bi-Lingual Storytime in the Children's Services Division.

The library offers a collection of young adult books selected and maintained by the Young Adult librarian. Young Adult materials are geared towards grades 9 and up. Programs for young adults have included Summer Reading programs, Wii, Anime Workshops, and Writing Workshops.
