Centinela Adobe
Among the landmarks are the Centinela Valley Adobe built in 1834 by Ignacio Machado, the Daniel Freeman Land Office built in 1887, and the Centinela Valley Heritage and Research Center. Through mementos from the 1888 Freeman mansion, more than 10,000 photographs, books and other memorabilia chronicling the evolution of Centinela Valley are available for exploration by generations to come. The Land Office contains displays which highlight the area's first poultry colony, the first ever domestic chinchilla farm, famous brick manufacturers, and the home of aviation's third busiest commercial center, the birthplace of aerospace defense and exploration, the original South Bay businesses, and much more.The Walter Haskell Research Center
The Walter Haskell Research Center (also known as the Heritage Center) houses the remnants of the 1888 Daniel Freeman Mansion. The mansion was demolished in 1972. Within the Heritage Center walls are kept:- The Fashions: Our fashions wardrobe consists of over 2,000 articles of antique and vintage clothing and period accessories.
- The Memories: Do you ever wonder what the local area looked like 100 years ago? While visiting the Heritage Center, take time to look through our collection of over 12,000 photos pertaining to the local area's history.
- The Library: Whether you're a book or history lover, you'll be sure to enjoy our extensive library. The library collection, comprised mainly of books donated by our local founding families, includes subjects such as Aviation, California history, local history and literary classics.
